Little Piece of Paris

As promised, here is a quick tour of my newly designed bedroom.
I wish I could do something cool and give you DIY instructions but the truth is I did not DIM {Do it Myself} I had lots of help. I did none of the major things. So I'll do what I can.

Special thanks to
Chelsea for doing the sewing,
Stetson for help painting
Stets, Brandon and Miles for their muscles in moving things back and forth
and mostly my ever so talented Mom who pulled the whole thing off in less than 24 hours.
Thanks everyone!

The mains.

First of all, my walls were poop brown before this redo. That is the biggest change. Also, for the first time in 9 years, Pink is not my signature color. I caved and went with red. And turquoise of course.
Also, I had a Paris themed room through Jr. high and high school. {Pink and Green of course} I was more than ready to bring it back.
My aunt sewed the striped bedspread for me. The back is red, and actually just a red bed sheet. So it is still nice to sleep with.
{The fabric for the bed spread and the black and white pillows were purchased at Ikea}

Also, take a look at my new turquoise curtains. {also purchased at Ikea} They are great! And keep the cold Logan air from blowing into my room during the day!

The "Paris" canvas was a gift for Christmas but I'm pretty sure it was from Target.

This is probably my favorite thing I've ever made. It was an idea from Pintrest.
All I did was get an old frame that wasn't going to make our move over the summer and painted in Turquoise. Then, I put nails in the back and twirled jewelry wire around each one.
I have 4 parallel rows of wire.
I bought the tiny clothespins from Wal Mart and spray painted them white.
Then viola! I clip pictures up, trimmed to the size I decide and it is so easy to change out.
I adore pictures and this has been a great conversation started with lots of people.

Each of these boards serves a different purpose for me. The middle one is a cork board and the other two are both magnet boards. The first is covered in a map purchased at Micheal's {with France in the middle-obviously} and stuck onto the magnet board with spray adhesive. The last is just red and white checked fabric also stuck on with spray adhesive.
These three are very helpful in college! I always have dates to remember and I always stick them up there so I see them as I walk out the door.

Then of course my Eiffel Tower lamp that I've had for years sits on my desk and during the day leaves a lovely shadow on my wall that I love!

So there ya go! My new bedroom that I can't get enough of!

No. Never. Absolutely Not.

It's come to my attention that I said I'd be adventurous.
I'd be daring.
I'd be awesome.

However....

That will never ever include going climbing.
Ever.

So no one ask. {Britt}
That will never happen.

I would fall and die.
It would not be pretty.

That is never in my definition of adventure.
Or daring.

Sorry.
Actually no.
I'm not sorry.

Recent {happy} thoughts

I owe everyone an apology for being sensitive Sally lately and having Debbie downer posts.
That was rude of me and I apologize.

Here are somethings in my life that are great beyond great.
Really.
I am truly blessed.

Ice Cream with my Roommates -1 +Lynds.
I am so happy Lynds came to spend a few days with me.

Looming a scarf with Stets on Saturday.
We are that cool.

Re-doing my room!!
Here is a sneak peak. Look forward to a full post as soon as the final piece is in place.

My Lizzie. [Slutz for Puppies]
We are now best friends after the weekend.
We had a lovely chat last night.
She is literally the funniest girl on earth.
Love her.

Celebrating MLK day with these fools.
Complete with "I have a Dream-sicles."
And Oreos's- where black and white come together.

See that 4?!
FOUR??!!?
Holy crap. SO exciting.

MY PHONE IS BACK!
Well, I got a new one.
So if I don't have your contact info it's because I lost it in the toilet.

I promise from now on to not be in the dumps.
Proceed to happy blogging again.

For my good

If you don't want to hear the ramblings of a lonely, sappy girl, move on.

Sometimes I really miss my best friend.
Yes, I have a lot of those.
And right now I do miss all of them.

But the one that really weighs me down is Mike.
I never want to write about this on my blog because everyone else will see it
then I turn in to that girl.
The one everyone tells stories about,

"Oh his girlfriend would send letters that had 6 lbs of perfume on them and put a million "I love my Missionary" stickers on there because writing it a gazillion times wasn't enough..."

You've all heard them.
I have too.
(Sidenote: I do NOT do that.)

I don't mean to be that girl.
I am thrilled he's on his mission and how much he has grown.
Missions are amazing things and should never be thought of differently.

But losing your best friend to one makes it sometimes hard to remember that.
Sometimes you just let yourself think that if it weren't for a mission he would be here,

to hang out with you on a Saturday night,
to tell you that as much as you want to watch P.S. I Love You, you shouldn't because it is going to make you miss him that much more,
to paint your nails on your right hand so it doesn't get all over the place,
to make jokes at your expense- just so people know you are with him,
to just sit with you so you don't realize that you are the most boring thing on the planet, right below sloths and beige.

But then, I wouldn't have the letters that I will cherish forever, no matter what.
Because I got to watch my best friend become an adult,
to draw closer to the Lord and rely on Him for his every need.
I wouldn't have the countdown on my phone that excitedly will say 499 Days tomorrow.
The 400's you guys.
That means there are just over 100 more days until it's been a year.

I can't believe that.
So yes, it is going by fast.
I feel like it was just a month ago that he was leaving.
How far I've come from that day.
How far he's come from that day.

Again, I wouldn't change my circumstances because "all things shall be thee experience and shall be for thy good." (Doctrine and Covenants 122:7)
I just had to get it off my chest, and writing it in my journal or something just didn't seem to do it's job.

I miss my best friend.
That's it.

But I am blessed.
Truly.
For that I am grateful.

Bad Luck Betty

You guys, I have had the freaking worst luck in the world lately.
Everything keeps going wrong.
Even when I think that nothing else could go wrong,
something always does.

Let me explain.

First, the day after I went home foe Christmas Break, the bathroom upstairs was leaking leaving the panels on my ceiling soaked and it finally caved.
Yes it was a small piece compared to the entirety of the ceiling.
But it is indeed still broken.

Then I was really, just not excited to be coming back to school.
I don't know, and I still don't.
But it was really weird since I really do love Logan and my roommates and everything.
I just wasn't feeling it.

Then on the way back, my car dies on the side of the freeway.
It was towed and sent to a repair shop and we later found out that it wasn't fixable,
leaving me with no car.

Normally that wouldn't be a problem.
But when I was told I had to get a job to pay my rent and stay in school,
not having a car is making that really hard.

Then Monday night, after FHE (I would like to say that I finally went to FHE this year, and that is the right thing right?) I was going to pee and when my roommate who loves the bathroom...
knocked on the door scared me and my phone fell out of my pocket into the toilet.
It was in there for maybe 2 seconds before I freaked out.

It is still currently sitting in a bad of rice.
A big part of me wants to say it's okay because I don't know what I will do without a phone but there is an 85% chance that it is a goner.
But we will wait and see I guess.

Then not 5 minutes after that, a filling on one of my teeth broke.
Yes, basically my tooth fell out.
Just out of nowhere.
I have no idea.

Then the next morning, I didn't get to talk to my sister when she flew out to Texas. She called home and we had made arrangements for her to call me on another phone but it never happened.
I'm pretty bitter about that.

Then after that little things kept happening to ruin my day.
Like losing my looming tools in my room making it impossible to make a warm scarf since it has been in the negatives in Logan all week. I left my gloves in my class- I did get those back after tromping through freezing campus for a while. Just dumb little things.

I feel like I'm doing the right things, I got a calling in church which I happily accepted, I went to FHE, I went to the temple, I just don't know what the deal is.

This is when I miss my friends the most.
I want someone to talk to.
To vent.
To just get things off my chest.

I've had some looming questions in my head this week as everything is going wrong, that maybe I'm not supposed to be here.
That it's pushing me away.
I hate that.
I really do love Logan, I love college, I love my roommates and the friends that are here.

But it doesn't feel the same lately.
We'll see what happens.
Maybe nothing.

But hopefully my luck changes soon.
I'm going to need that.

End rant.

Beyond

I'm beyond frustrated right about now.
It is beyond cold.
So cold in fact that I got frost on my hair as I walked to class today.

It is beyond annoying that everything in my life is breaking.

First my ceiling,
then my car,

and just barely my phone,
and my tooth.

Both of those things happened within minutes of each other.

Just what am I doing wrong?
Seriously.
Because I am beyond done with all of this and am ready for a break.

LDV

On a whim,
I auditioned for the institute choir called
Latter-Day Voices

Very much to my surprise, I made it!
I was auditioning so that I could be more prepared for the auditions next time and could kind of have an advantage.

But when I woke up to the text,
"Congratulations. You have been appointed to the 2013 Latter-Day Voices"
I was in awe.

I went to my first rehearsal yesterday and felt the Spirit so strongly.
The music we are singing is beyond beautiful.
We have a performance on Saturday giving me 4 days to learn 4 pretty challenging songs.
But I am thrilled to be back in Choir.

The people in this choir are beyond amazing.
Amazing singers, performers and have made me feel so welcome.

This is a huge blessing and I cannot wait to share the Spirit with others through music.

That time I rode in Police Car

So I came back to Logan right?
Right.

Well as I was leaving my house after Christmas Break, I was actually really sad.
I had been kind of dreading coming back up to Logan and I'm really not sure why.
I'm usually beyond excited to be back but this time, I honestly thought about just taking a semester off and living at home.
But due to the missionary age change, I knew I wouldn't be able to sell my housing.
So I left home, actually shedding one tear as I drove out and started on my way.

I had a feeling that something would happen on the way up there because it has just been my luck lately.
Logan has been begging me not to come back.

First, I failed my math class again and am in Math 1010 for the third time. I was beyond mad about that.
Second, my room was flooded and a part of my ceiling crashed to the ground, leaving a gaping whole in it.
(Also, due to the flooding, my room smelled like crap so the windows and fans had been on all break so my room was Antarctica, so I had my winter coat on the whole time.)

Then the car.
I just knew something would happen because I was officially on my own for Logan.

I was so close to Brigham City, literally 5 miles away and I feel this bitter cold wind hitting me
It was my heat.
Yes, my heat had stopped being hot and was freezing.
And it was 2 degrees outside already.

So I turned it off thinking it just needed a break.
I turned it back on and smelled something weird.
I knew this was not good.

So then when I noticed that my speedometer was decreasing while I was flooring my gas pedal, I pulled over to the shoulder as quickly as I could and immediately called my Dad.

Not a minute later, a police man pulled up behind me, lights flashing.
I panicked to my Dad since I have never been pulled over or in an accident so I had never spoken to an Officer.

After much deliberation and attempts to start my car back up, he kindly volunteered to drive me to the next exit where there was a rest stop that I could wait for someone to come get me.

Let me remind you that I was a little bit more than half way to Logan from Salt Lake. Making it very difficult to find someone to get me.
Also, since I had the car to myself, I took advantage of all the space and brought way too much stuff.

So, I grabbed my backpack, purse, coat and shoes and hopped in the police car.
The front seat of the police car.

There were so many gadgets, laptops, speakers, speed trackers everywhere, just so much going on!
The officer was beyond nice.
He gave me a few directions and took my personal information since he was on duty and I just rode in his car, it was protocol.

I very timidly walked into the gas station in the middle of nowhere and found the Subway that had plenty of seating for me to hang out on for the next hour.
This is what I looked like upon entering. Also, I was still in my church clothes. AKA skirt, and heels.

I made several phone calls and finally got my roommates to agree to come and get me and all my stuff.
They are the best. That is for sure.

Then I waited.
My Dad called every about 10 minutes to see if anything had changed, if I had been picked up, just all of it.

When my roommates got to lovely Willard, we hopped in their car and began to make the loop back around to get all my stuff.

When we finally got there, the 4 of us and to get all of my stuff from my big Isuzu Trooper to Ashely's more compact Subaru.
But with all these elements, ready?

1. The cars that were 5 feet from us were going 90 miles an hour
2. It was 2 degrees
3.It was freaky windy and the cars speeds were making it worse.
4. The 4 feet of snow that was right next to us.
5. The skirt that I was wearing, did not like the wind but the cars driving by got a lovely show I'm sure.
6. My heels made it almost impossible to walk in the snow
7. It was pitch black dark- no street lights.
8. We screamed the entire time.

Again, my roommates are the best.

We finally made it back to Logan and unloaded all of my stuff at about 9:45.
I left my house at 6:30....

After much stress and bad moods, I was back in Logan.
I went to school the next day then Kaydee drove me to Brigham City where my car had been towed and was waiting at a repair shop.
After finding out it was not in the normal Brigham City and finally found it, we dropped off my key and headed back to Logan.

The next day I find out that the engine cylinders are cracked which makes the coolant do nothing and was going to cost $2500 to fix.
We bought the car for $3000.

So, I hate my car.
It is making the first week of school extremely difficult.

But RIP Albus.
I hate you and hope to never see you again.

But yes, I rode in the passenger seat of a Police Car, with a real Officer, with his lights on, and he was giving his coordinates to other officers over the intercom the whole time.

That is the good news.

Ironic

Irony is really one of the funniest things.
When things are ironic, you just have to laugh

I had a night full of irony.
Really guys and I'm not kidding.

And it's hilarious but still just weird.

My bracelet that Mike and I won at Nickle Cade is breaking so bad.
It isn't going to last very much longer.

I have a rug burn on the back of my hand.
Duck Dynasty is hilarious and always will be.
(PS. I would like to put it out there that I watched that show from the beginning not just recently when everyone realized it's hilarity)

And I move back up to Logan tomorrow.
Those are things happening.

Some are part of my ironic day and some are just other things that I'm tying to think about instead of my night.

Yup.

Check-In

Part of my New Year Resolution was blogging more, as well as making this a good year and remembering more things in detail.
In order to combine these things, I decided to do a check up every once in a while.
Answering the same group of questions that are bound to change throughout the year.

I am also doing this lovely craft that I hope sticks around and will for years to come.
Calendar Journal. Fill an old recipe box withEach date has its own card, and you index cards. Write something you did that day, plus the year. then next year (or 5 years later) when you write something down on that date, you are reminded of what you were doing last year (or 5 years ago!). Baked cookies, took the dog to the park, completed something big or little, or layed in bed all day! Neat!
Each day has a card and you write one thing about your day on it. Then each year you add on to it and remember where you were a year ago.
I love this idea.

But here is to my first check up!

What has made you happy?
Going to lunch with Jenna and being friends again.
What has made you excited?
Getting ready to re-decorate my Logan room. A change is needed there.
What has made you sad?
Updating my pictures around my room and things and not having my best friend in them

Zoo Lights with Kaydee, Lynds, and Britt.
What is your favorite class lately and why?
Sleeping because that takes up as much time in my life as a class would if it wasn't still break.
What is the biggest thing to change lately?
It would probably have to be Mal leaving or finding out my roommate is staying with us!
What is something you wish you could change?
The length of my hair. It's really started to bug lately. Hopefully the perm helps.
What have you done for you lately?
Changed the way and the amount that I write to missionaries. That is for both of us.
What's something you want to remember to do in the future?
Your parents will help out. Just ask them.
What do you hope never happens again?
Math 1010 or the placement test. I can't..
What are 10 things you are most grateful for now?
